Do you overthink every interaction you have with people?

Maybe you feel like you need to be on good terms with everyone all the time. Or maybe you feel the need to text people back immediately because you don’t want them thinking you don’t care. Your anxiety makes you do things that temporarily put you at east but you know that ease will quickly be replaced with something else to worry about.

What are the 5 types of anxiety disorders?

  1. Generalized Anxiety Disorder: feelings of anxiety and dread that is ongoing.

  2. Panic Disorder: sudden and unexpected periods of intense fear, loss of control and discomfort even when there is no danger or trigger.

  3. Social Anxiety Disorder: intense fear of being judged by others.

  4. Phobia-Related Disorders: intense fear of a specific object or situation.

  5. Separation Anxiety Disorder: fear of being separated from people you are attached to and worry something will happen to them while separated.

Anxiety shouldn’t dictate your life.

You want to care less about what people think and you want to live your life without overthinking every decision. You deserve to live a life not controlled by your anxiety.

We live in a stressful world and we have access to all kinds of news at our fingertips. Anxiety treatment at Space to Reflect looks a little different than traditional anxiety treatment. Traditional anxiety treatment is about managing symptoms. We help clients identify their triggers for anxiety but also explore why they are triggers. Anxiety can stem from family stress, life transitions, racial trauma, and not knowing how to emotionally regulate. We help clients understand that anxiety will never go away completely but the goal is to manage the symptoms more effectively.

Can anxiety be cured with therapy?

Anxiety is part of life.

If the goal is to never feel anxious, we might be in danger and not know it. We would also not be able to get excited about things or feel excited nerves before a big event. Eustress is the good kind of anxiety that keeps us alert and aware of potential danger and also gets us excited about life. We want to experience this kind of anxiety because it feels good.

Then, there is the other kind of anxiety that feels debilitating. It feels like a ton on bricks on your chest. The kind where you constantly overthink, experience racing thoughts, and catastrophize. You might think everyone is mad at you or you avoid situations because you know you will feel anxious. This type of anxiety prevents you from being present. While “curing anxiety” might feel like the goal, what we really want is to learn how to manage anxiety.

Other signs it's time to get support:

  • You're avoiding important activities, relationships, or opportunities because of anxiety

  • You use unhealthy coping mechanisms to manage your anxiety (like excessive drinking, substance use, or compulsive behaviors)

  • Your anxiety is affecting your work performance or academic success

  • You've started isolating yourself from friends and family

  • Physical symptoms are interfering with your daily functioning

  • You feel like you're constantly walking on eggshells

  • People close to you have expressed concern about your anxiety

How anxiety therapy works at
Space to Reflect:

We go beyond symptom management
Rather than just teaching you breathing exercises and coping skills (though we do that too), we explore the root causes of your anxiety. We help you understand how your upbringing, cultural background, family dynamics, and life experiences have shaped your relationship with anxiety.

We help you identify your triggers
You'll learn to recognize what situations, thoughts, or emotions tend to spike your anxiety. More importantly, we'll explore why these are triggers for you specifically. Understanding the "why" helps you develop more effective strategies for managing your response.

We teach you practical tools
You'll learn evidence-based techniques to manage anxious thoughts and physical symptoms in the moment. This includes grounding techniques, cognitive reframing, somatic exercises, and ways to challenge catastrophic thinking.

We work within your cultural context
We understand that cultural and family expectations can be a significant source of anxiety, especially for children of immigrants or people from collectivist cultures. We help you navigate the tension between honoring your cultural values and taking care of your mental health.

You deserve to feel calm. You deserve to make decisions without second-guessing yourself constantly. You deserve to be present in your life without anxiety stealing your joy.
